The United States Army consists of infantry units, armored vehicles, and guns. The former two are divided into further categories, and guns include cannons, mortars, artillery, rocket launcher, etc.
Units:
- Infantry soldiers are equipped with many different guns or firearms. Snipers are good for shooting targets while staying hidden, while machine guns are good for firing fast rounds. Rifles, shotguns, handguns, and pistols are hand held (the sniper and machine have tripods) but the latter two are preferred as sidearms, having replaced the sabers held by commanders. Sub-machine guns and carbines are basically mini versions of bigger guns. The grenade launcher, anti-tank/-aircraft fire explosives.
- Armored vehicles consist mostly of tanks, infantry carriers, “jeeps,” and artillery vehicles. Light tanks and medium tanks have moderate armor and guns are useful for many purposes like scouting. Heavy tanks are useful for “head-on” combat but are slow and not very maneuverable. They have strong armor and firepower. Tank Destroyers are the equivalent to the sniper. Infantry carriers are armored transport vehicles and “jeeps” are the same but for attacking purposes. Artillery or Self-Propelled Guns are guns with wheels.
